A spirited and workmanlike performance saw Leigh overcome
a well organised Blackburn side. The
home side took the lead with a well struck Harrison penalty, quickly followed
by an excellent Peters try when the veteran Grainey outpaced the defence to feed second row Peters, Harrison providing
the conversion. The visitors began to
dominate possession and territory, mainly due to the Hand Lane side lack of
discipline, giving away penalties around the ruck area. Gradually Leigh fought back and played some
excellent rugby with forwards and backs combining well. The young hooker, Niko, scored two excellent tries
to earn him the man of the match award.
Further tries came from Wood and Cowley, Harrison was on form with the
boot to provide five conversions from six attempts. In the closing minutes Blackburn struck back
with a well worked try to give Leigh a deserved 43 points to 5 points victory
