A public meeting has been organised so that you may put your questions about your Town having it’s own Town Council to the experts on Tuesday the 20th July 2010 at 7.30pm in the Atherton Conservative Club, Market Street, Atherton. The guest speakers will be Ken Cleary MBE: Vice Chair of the Lancashire Association of Local Councils , Councillor John Hudson: Lancashire representative on the National Association of Local Councils, and Marion Gelder: Executive Secretary to Lancashire Association of Local Councils

Correction, just a working too fast.

We are all paying out about £50 PER YEAR in Council Tax for the 10 Township Forums.

This info is correctly typed in on the NEWS posting I have already placed on this site.

In fact the sample given above works out even less than I’ve stated.
10 monthly payments of approx. £1.18 per month would do it.

Well worth getting your own Council back, I say and if we get rid of these expensive Forums, we should then be paying less Council Tax overall.

After getting back our Council. We shall then go for the big one a Leigh Metro Borough Council and a complete breakaway from WMBC.

Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley, Hindsford, Lowton, Golborne, Hindley Green, Bickershaw, Astley and Mosley Common as they have all had enough of WMBC running them down.

They should then all work together to get this area back to where it belongs.

A most successful group of settlements in easy reach of the City of Manchester which is known worldwide.

Wigan Council runs 10 Township Forums.

In their latest booklet they chose not to reveal how much they cost you. I wonder why.

Could it be because it may well be in excess of £3 million?

It’s been accessed that every full Council Tax payer may well be already paying
£50 per annum for these Forums.

Please read the booklet that’s been delivered with Borough Life, carefully.

They seem to be trying to put you off Town Councils by using what appears to be scare tactics.

Morecambe people pay £1 extra Council Tax per month (precept) to have their very own Council.

Wigan Council prints two examples in their booklet. Haigh Parish Council being one of them.

They quote £11.89 which is a D band Council Tax precept charge. A, B and C bands will be less.

They have quoted a whole year’s charge, that’s 10 Monthly payments of only £1.89.

Remember we are already paying out about £50 per month for these 10 Township Forums.

We will not want these Township Forums when we get our Leigh Council back.

That’s what’s putting the wind up them; they want their 10 Township Forums to carry on.

Andy Burnham MP seems to have tunnel vision for Leigh Sports Village only.

He is the elected MP for Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley, Lowton & Golborne etc & should be fighting
in their best interests & not appearing to align himself more & more with Wigan Council’s unfair noticeable running down of these proud Towns.

“Andy Burnham the MP for Leigh Township” doesn’t seem quite right to me and if he’s not careful he will become an MP of a non existent town.

Leigh’s Councillors just follow their leader Cllr. Peter Smith like sheep & don’t fight enough for Leythers & Leigh’s wants & needs.

36 years of Labour’s efforts within Wigan Council has dumbed down Leigh to a pitiful Township which now has a massive area close to its centre designated as most deprived.

Leigh & its people deserve better, Mr. Burnham, Mr. Smith & Ms. Redfearn.
