A

17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police

custody for questioning.

Stephen

Mark Garvey, aged 46, from Leigh, died after he was found collapsed in the

Stephen

had been drinking at the Waterside Pub that night after going to the Wigan

versus Manchester United match at the DW Stadium earlier in the day.

He

was seen being hit by a single punch on Henry Street at about 2.25am and

Stephen fell to the ground, hitting his head.

At

2.40am police were called to Henry Street following reports a man had been

found collapsed in the street.

Officers

attended and discovered Stephen on the ground with head injuries.

He

was taken to hospital by ambulance but died a short time later.

A

post mortem examination concluded that Stephen had died from head injuries.

Detective

Chief Inspector Jon Chadwick, from Greater Manchester Police's Major Incident

Team, said: "Such a sad end to what was very much a normal Saturday is a

tragedy and we have been working tirelessly since Stephen was found to try and

piece together exactly what happened to him.

"We

believe Stephen was attacked before he fell to the ground so it is important

that we speak to everyone who saw him before he was found.

"If

you saw or know something that could help our investigation, please contact my

officers."

Anyone

with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8259 or the independent
