Life’s A Beach in Leigh

Sun, sea, sand and…Leigh.
Well we can’t promise the first two but when Leigh has its very own beach
next week, there will be plenty of fun for everyone.
For the fifth year running the town will be hosting its own seaside special
complete with donkey rides, buckets and spades, ice-cream and sandcastles.
Everything you need for the perfect day out but without getting your feet wet.
The beach will be coming to Leigh Town Hall Square between Monday 2nd August
and Friday 6th August. It will include a children’s funfair, bouncy castles,
games and stalls
And to top that we’re shipping in three tonnes of sand to make sure everyone
can build their very own castle.
The annual event has become a firm fixture in the borough’s calendar of
celebrations and is aimed at bringing more people into the already popular town
centre.
Wigan Council’s Cabinet Champion for the Economy Cllr David Molyneux says:
“The great British seaside holiday holds a special place in all our hearts and
we want the Leigh beach event to be a real family celebration.
“Most of us remember our trips to the seaside with great affection and
nostalgia. This event recalls those glory days. Of course the other thing we all
remember about the seaside is the rain and while we’re praying for sunny skies
we’re sure the odd drop of water won’t dampen the spirits.”
The fun begins each day at 11am and goes on until 5pm.
Leigh Beach Week has been organised by Economic Regeneration’s Town Centre
Management initiative.
