I have just taken my mother for her annual flu jab at the doctors surgery, we enquired as to whether or not she needed a Swine Flu Jab as she cares for my Grandma who is suffering from cancer.

We were advised that as a carer my mother should be vaccinated to prevent carrying the Swine Flu virus to my Grandma who has a poor immune system.

Out of curiosity I asked the nurse who was administering the vaccine who was also heavily pregnant and falls into a high risk group,  whether she had had the vaccine. To my surprise she said she had not had the vaccination and was not intending to do so.

This is not the first time I have come across Health Professionals not opting to have the vaccination and as I am a regular visitor to my Grandmas and have been advised that I myself should have the Vaccination, I don't know what to think anymore, if it is safe why are the Health care professionals not taking the opportunity to receive the vaccination?

I would love to hear from anyone who has had the vaccination or is contemplating it, and ideally I would love to hear from anyone in the Health Care Profession and their views on the vaccination programme.

I went to my local doctor last week and in discussing the fact I'd been home for two days in bed, she mentioned that it's usually the chest infection that develops from a bout of swine flu that's most worrying and that they had been instructed to prescribe to prevent the chest infection?  BTW, no swine flu here, just a chest infection! Cough cough...

I have also had the Swine flu injection quite recently and must admit I have not had any side effects from it. My arm has been sore but I was told to expect this. I for one am glad I had this injection as I would not like to think I could pass on this flu to my mother-in-law who suffers from cancer. I realise it is early days yet so we will have to see.
