How long will it be before someone is seriously hurt by a cyclist?. I am fortunate to be agile enough to have evaded a speeding cyclist riding on the footpath in Leigh town centre. a few days ago. Two weeks ago I almost hit a cyclist riding the wrong way in Market street. I had turned left out of St Marys way and as I was puling out into the right hand lane to turn into the avenue the cyclist appeared riding in the opposite direction. I managed to brake quickly enough not to hit him only to get verbal abuse regarding my driving ability. To get to the crux of the matter, cyclists are getting away with blatant disregard of the law. Most of them no longer adhere to the highway code as is required by law. They ignore traffic signals, ride at night without lights and disregard any road signs etc etc. It is time the police started taking action against these law breakers before someone is seriously hurt. I have spoken to the police who admit that the cyclists are breaking the law yet they turn a blind eye towards them.
