Part of the A580 East Lancashire Road has been closed.

Shortly before 11am on Sunday 9 January 2011, police were called to the carriageway between junction 23 of the M6 (Haydock) and Golbourne Island following reports of a collision.

Officers attended and discovered a Fiat Panda and Ford Ka had collided. There are not thought to be any serious casualties.

The eastbound carriageway has been closed and is expected to remain shut for several hours.

Motorists are advised to find an alternate route.
