Welcome to Howe Bridge

It’s teeming with history and proud of its past: a planned village, built to

Dutch designs by the Fletcher family to house local mine and factory workers.

It’s proud of its current status and looking to the future, with an active

tenants’ group and regular success as part of Borough in Bloom.

Howe Bridge, far more that ‘that bit between Atherton and Leigh’, has put

itself firmly on the map with stylish new road signs showing off the heart of

the community – the former bathhouse, now part of the promenade on Leigh

Road.

“Across our borough, lots of dedicated locals work hard on behalf of their

streets and townships,” says Atherleigh ward councillor Susan Loudon, “and here

in Howe Bridge, we work closely with the Bridgers, especially on eco-projects

which really enhance the village.”

Together with fellow ward councillors Pam Stewart and Mark Aldred, Cllr

Loudon has paid for the new signs from Brighter Borough funds.

Designed to the same style as other signs making the gateways to townships

across the borough, the sign celebrates the work of the Bridgers and the

Atherton Environmental Projects on Borough in Bloom.  The council and partners

have had success each year of entry, with finalists awards and recognition from

the judges of Northwest in Bloom.  With projects such as at Colliers Corner and

new landscaping around the church, Howe Bridge always delivers a strong showing.

I am not sure if this is the correct place for this.
I am Derek Amos' eldest granddaughter , Rebecca.
Derek passed away on Saturday 29th January 2011.
This week we will be organizing the funeral.
If anybody sees this and wishes to inquire about the details please contact me on, 0161 2822582, if Iam not home please leave a message and i will get back to you.
I know my granddad would have liked all his friends their, he lived in Howe Bridge all of his life and held it very dearly so has many friends in the area, but we have found it hard to get in touch with everybody. I will also post again with the details.
    Thankyou, Rebecca
