Dear Leigh People web viewer,

A Public Meeting was held

yesterday Monday 27/6/2011 at the Leigh Miners, Leigh Lancs.

Below is my request to Andy

Burnham MP who is the Member of Parliament for Leigh Lancs.

I request that Andy Burnham

MP, without delay, makes it crystal

clear to everyone verbally & in writing, including the local & national

press & the present Government, the following:

It's high time that the TOWN

of Leigh Lancs, which he represents, whose population has

repeatedly elected him to do so, was reconnected to our railway system.  I feel he should have already expressed this

with a loud voice & his annoyance

& frustration that it remains disconnected which he should find most unacceptable.

Due to Leigh being downgraded to a Township by WMBC along with its lack of a

rail connection, Leigh has been held back & is failing & will continue

failing to release its' full potential.

However at the same time due to the heavy daily commuter traffic from it

& close by areas to nearby cities & towns, I am sure this must produce

a large carbon footprint.

Mr. Burnham needs to point this

out & the benefits to the local people's wellbeing & the local economy

if a re-connection was bought about soon.

An overhead electric branch line would reduce the road commuter traffic

& therefore the carbon footprint, as his past leader & Prime Minister

Gordon Brown MP signed up to achieve in Denmark.  At the same

time encourage Leigh in many ways to develop & become more successful including

the likelihood of bringing in more companies whereby producing more work

opportunities,

Leigh needs & wants this

line & station NOW!  Not in a

distant future.

If the will is created &

benefits put forward & someone with power is to receive some credit for it,

the money will be found.  If they are

willing to spend £76m on a bus in a gutter that will jam up the East Lancs

everyday it's not the money that's to be spent that matters to them.

The powers that be are spending

millions & millions of pounds per year on rail improvements.

Anything's possible, we have

just got to convince the right people.

    FOR DETAILS OF PROPOSAL.

    GOOGLE http://tinyurl.com/67pc87v LOTS OF INFO

    Route 1 including maps & costing £52m (£51,914,262).

This costing was delivered by me on 15th December 2010 to Portcullis House House of Commons on behalf of Ged Tyrrell of the Transport of Leigh Group.

I am informed that this will be a carbon friendly overhead electric line.

It's not to be in the town centre as that is now not possible however it is in Leigh & serving Leigh & the surrounding areas including the Sports Village which does need to be promoted. We must think bigger than just Leigh. However remembering Leigh even though it's now termed as a TOWNSHIP by WMBC is not a village.

A large Park & Ride is a must, including feeder buses from Leigh & many different areas including Golborne etc.

Travel by rail & beat the A580 jam ups.

Where would you propose the railway station to be sited. As far as I can see there is nowhere near the town center that could provide for a railway station so why not just use the one at Atherton. Yes it would be wonderful to have a station situated close to the town center but at what cost?.. Leigh was never situated on a main line hence the closure of its stations. In my opinion the costs of a station far outweigh the usefulness of one.
